- Think excellence. Great satisfaction comes from doing your best in every activity. Average performance is never good enough.
- You are being copied by others in everything you do. So, set the kind of examples you want followed.
- Speaking up is essential to leadership. Express yourself at every opportunity. Conquer fear by speaking up. You need other people to help you achieve your goals. So, win their cooperation.
- Invest all the praise you receive.
- Take 100 percent responsibility when things go wrong.
- Coordinate the knowledge of other people.
- Have the courage to take risks. Taking risks is as essential to success as breathing is to life.

Silence as Acceptance

As a generalization, the offerer can never consider silence by the offeree as an acceptance. In some cases the offerer attempts to bring about a situation of this kind by a statement in the offer to the effect that failure to reply will be construed as acceptance of the offeror’s proposal. Usually, the offeree is under no obligation to reply to any business proposal. However, if the offeree requested that goods be shipped on approval, or there is a prior business arrangement or understanding between the parties, silence may be fairly construed as acceptance. These cases are exceptional, however.

From a sales manager’s point of view, the importance of timely, accurate sales forecasts cannot be overstated. There is nothing quite as needlessly frustrating as being surprised at the month end sales results because the forecasts from the field were incorrect, untimely, or inadequate.
More than simply keeping sales managers up to date, accurate sales forecasting can have an important impact on other areas of the company as well. Sales forecasts give management the information that is necessary to implement a product plan that ensures that the right product is available for salespeople to sell.
It is true that a sales force automation system cannot compensate for poor forecasting skills of salespeople in the field. What a sales system can do, however, is to move the information from the field management instantly. Perhaps more important is the fact that an automated sales system can deliver the information in a format that allows the forecasts of several salespeople to be automatically rolled up into a consolidated regional report. Since the information is in a more usable format, it is more valuable to management. It is more likely to be useful in preventing end-of-the-month surprises.

One of the most distinctive and helpful features of single system research involves collecting information on the client’s problem/situation before intervention actually begins. This is called baselining. The period of time over which this information is collected is called the baseline. The information or data that you collect is called the baserate, which involves systematic collection of data on the client’s problem prior to the implementation of your intervention program. The data that you collect during baseline continue to be collected throughout your intervention program. They provide an important basis for evaluating your effectiveness, since the baseline is almost always the first phase of your design.

All training, whether it is provided by the training department or by you, should accomplish two objectives. It should provide people with the skill, meaning the ability, to do the job. Or it should provide them with the will or the desire to do the job. Some training will accomplish both.
The skills training you provide your people will be dictated by the needs of the business and the current skills of the people. First you must determine what your people need to learn. Here are some questions that will help lead you to the answer:
- What are the goals and objectives of the area?
- What are the responsibilities of each job?
- What are the standards the people are expected to meet?
- What are the skills needed to meet the standards, fulfill the responsibilities, and achieve the objectives?
- What are the current skills and abilities of the people?
- What is the deficit between the skills needed and the current skills of the people?
Providing people with the skills to do the job is only half the training job. People must be motivated to apply the skills they have learned; therefore, some of the training should be principally motivational in nature. As you develop plan for motivating your people, you will want to ask yourself these questions:
- What should they know about the company in order to have a sense of pride?
- What I can teach them about the department that will give them a sense of pride?
- What kinds of personal growth training will enhance their self-confidence and personal pride?

Discipline refers to a condition in the organization where employees conduct themselves in accordance with the organization’s rules and standards of acceptable behavior. For the most part, employees discipline themselves by conforming to what is considered proper behavior because they believe it is the reasonable thing to do. Once they are made aware of what is expected of them, and assuming they find these standards and rules to be reasonable, they seek to meet those expectations.
But not all employees will accept the responsibility of self-discipline. There are some employees who do not accept the norms of responsible employee behavior. Those employees, then, require some degree of extrinsic disciplinary action.

When designing pieces of the supply chain, managers must determine whether these pieces are part of the push or pull in the chain. Push systems generally require information in the form of elaborate material requirement planning systems to take the master production schedule and roll it back, creating schedules for suppliers with part types, quantities, and delivery dates. Pull systems require information on actual demand to be transmitted extremely quickly throughout the entire chain so that production and distribution of parts and products may accurately reflect the real demand.

You can save money by getting access to cooperative advertising funds. Many large advertisers pay cash fees to small advertisers who mention the name of the large advertiser in their ads. It not only helps save money for entrepreneurs but also lends credibility to their offerings by mentioning that offer these co-op funds insist they be the only company mentioned. Others don’t care, just as long as you spell their name right. Still others demand that you include their theme line or logo in your ad. A smart entrepreneur, interested in saving lots of marketing money, will include the names of several co-op-oriented companies, thereby saving a large percentage of the ad cost – frequently more than 50 percent. This takes research and pre-arranging, but if you’re interested in saving money, it’s worth it.
