Benchmarking


We cannot become what we want to be by remaining what we are. Shift from the original status is the key for success.

If a company is loosing the market (or) customers, the company has to realize that somebody is doing well ahead. So it is necessary to find out the ways to get their competitor’s level and have to beat them to retain the market and customers. An ideal tool to meet this level is benchmarking.

Benchmarking is a way to go backstage and watch another company’s performance from the wings where all the stage tricks and hurried re-alignments are visible. It is the practice of being humble enough to admit that someone else is better at something, and wise enough to learn to how to match and even surpass, them at it.

It is the process of identification, understanding and practicing the outstanding practices and processes from organizations anywhere in the world to help the organizations to improve its perfomance.

While benchmarking, it is not ethical to benchmark a product with another. This will give only the numerical values of weight, width, height, number of defects and number of rejections. But the objective is to benchmark a process with the best processes anywhere in the world having that best product as a target.

Benchmarking is not copying or imitating. This involves observing and learning from others. it is not a time-bound event. It is a continuous journey and an ongoing process without end, till the company is existing. The more we split the process into small segments the more will be the value added to each individual process. This is the key feature of benchmarking.

More about Transformational Leadership


Transformational leadership refers to the bulk of leadership models, which focus on the exchanges that occur between leaders and their followers. Politicians who win votes by promising no new taxes are demonstrating transactional leadership. Similarly, managers who offer promotions to employees who surpass their goals are exhibiting transactional leadership. In the classroom, teachers are being transactional when they give students a grade for work completed. The exchange dimension of transactional leadership is very common and can be observed at many levels throughout all types of organizations.

 In contrast to transactional leadership, transformational leadership refers to the process whereby an individual engages with others and creates a connection that raises the level of motivation and morality in both the leader and the follower. This type of leader is attentive to the needs and motives of followers and tries to help followers reach their fullest potential.

Psychology of Entrepreneurs


Some people are more likely to become successful entrepreneurs because of their mental attitudes. Intensive desire for independence, or its converse, high dissatisfaction with operating under the direction of others. Such an urge frequently derives from an authoritarian father, whom the entrepreneur struggles to dominate and surpass. An ironly they point out is that when an entrepreneur finally achieves establishment of an independent firm, the sought-for autonomy may turn out to be a miraj, because the company is still subjected to whims of customers, employees, governmental agencies, financial backers, and others who can ‘boss around’ the entrepreneurs anyway.

Other drives proposed to explain entrepreneurial behavior unclude an urge for power, the will to conquer, and the joy of creating. Most commonly accepted as dominant, however, is ‘Need for Achievement.’ Symptoms of this need are 1) desire to take personal responsibility for decisions, 2) preference for decisions involving risk that is neither very high nor very low, but rather moderate, 3) interest in concrete results from their decisions, tendency to work harder at tasks requiring mental manipulation, 5) not working harder because of financial incentive, 6) tending to think ahead, and 7) preferring to work with experts rather than personal friends.
